Dr Christiaan Pauw
Since 1998 Dr. Pauw has been involved in research and the implementation of projects aimed at improving the quality of life of low-income households in Southern Africa. His working career of the last 25 years includes quantitative and qualitative research and development studies, as well as participation in project planning, management and implementation. A highlight of the last twelve years is his original work on greenhouse gas and air quality offsets. In 2006 and 2007 he was instrumental in the development of a methodology to verify greenhouse gas emission reductions from the implementation of an alternative top-down ignition technique for domestic coal fires against the WBCSD/WRI GHG Project Protocol. Dr Pauw further led the Nova team in becoming the first organisation in South Africa to register and be issued Gold Standard VERs in the voluntary market. He played a pivotal role in the development of the monitoring and evaluation systems of Nova, and as a result, the organisation has, to date, been issued with more than 200000 Gold Standard credits that have been sold and used to further the mission of Nova. Since 2006 he has done numerous studies, pilot projects and full-scale implementations related to housing and domestic energy interventions. He led the development of impact measurement methods for air quality offset projects and coordinated the implementation of several rounds of monitoring for such projects. Dr Pauw regularly participates in forums such as NACA where he is recognised for his competence in technical and social evaluations in the field.
